i drove to and back from a party for the first time new years. was a bit skatty, even when on the motorway it fwelt like the car was only doin 40.
i dont know where you were, but one of the problems of out door raves is you pretty much have to drive there unless you live in walking or driving distance. getting taxis from the train station to a random field on sketchy directions hardly ever goes down well, plus the taxi driver might grass up rthe rave…
Was totally stoned when I passed my test (had a huge bucket bong about 1/2 hour before, as I was really nervous)….
Passed first time tho’.
Don’t smoke anymore, as I stopped enjoying it, but I think stoned people driving are going to be more careful to a certain extent, and less likely to react badly to being noised up etc….
Depends on the drug really – alcohol is a no no IMO – pissed people are far too confident about their own ability behind a wheel, and don’t realise that it’s been impaired by the alcohol…
Plenty people smoke tobacco behind the wheel tho’, and every sales rep/lorry driver is flying on caffeine pretty much (which is a drug, no matter how many try to ignore that it is)….
Stimulants have been shown in pretty much every study to enhance reaction times, and increase spatial/motion awareness, so they would seem to be relatively good drugs to drive on (and you are often ‘told’ to stop and have a rest/some coffee by those roadside signs)… Amphetamine is just another stimulant, so why would it make driving worse, and coffee not?
Having driven my son (aged 4) a fair number of miles, I would say the reason this woman crashed her car was more likely to have been the 2 kids, and 2 teens she had in the car. Kids (especially younger ones) really don’t understand that cars can be dangerous in any way, and are VERY distracting when you are behind the wheel. It is really easy (through no fault of your own, or the kids) to get distracted, and if that moment happens to be the wrong one (in which you need to take evasive action or somesuch), you are in trouble.
Many people who drive cars also lack IMO a decent level of ‘threat avoidance’ – ie the reading of road conditions, and reacting to them in a defensive manner as motorbike riders are all taught. I know lots of car drivers that have the attitude “just pull out, and expect the other driver to slow down/compensate for your action” – especially ones who drive rush hour a lot…. Bikers (those of us who are still alive) don’t dare to do this – the law of averages is that at some point, the other driver will be distracted. On a bike, you are very exposed, and very aware that you are. A car can feel safe when you are inside (not true, but that is how it feels)…
luckily it was only a 70 mile round trip. i doubt ill drive to many, especially if its too far, like wales. ill leave it to my more experienced mates.
Passed first time tho’.
.
lol dunno how you did that!! i got well paranoid when i was stoned durin lessons. i try not to drive stoned too cos it makes feel not very in control.
i’d definitely agree with that. i rode a moped for two years and found it not only gave me good road sense and awareness, but its also made me more warey and cautious of other drivers. i was treated like shite on my ped and now expect every driver to be another middleage dickhead or careless teenager.
Got arested leaving a festi 9 times over the limit, with traces of morphine, mdma and coke in my blood driving a 9 ton truck.:you_crazy :you_crazy :you_crazy :you_crazy :you_crazy :you_crazy
One time myself and my partner had just left helter skelter at the sanctuary, v. foggy and ended up driving on wrong side of road cos i couldnt make out the road. Got myself back on the correct side of the road and come up to a roundabout, golf gti spun out and gone straight over roundabout fully loaded with ravers.
I stopped and fitted 5 nutted blokes and me and misses in frontera and took them all back to sanctuary to find their buddies as they had to get back to brum i think.
As i said i never have and never will drive on drugs…..:groucho: xmas_badger
The other night when looking for a party a mate took a wrap of MDMA powder whilst driving. He was fine but pulled over when he started to come up as he didnt want to drive whilst the initial rush was coming in.:crazy_diz
no accidents actually i was shocked at how well he was driving :bounce_fl
Don’t drive myself but without thinkin twice always travel to parties with friends who are under the influence. It can be dangerous, the night before x-mas eve there was a car full of us stationary at some traffic lights when a when a guy we know from the area plowed into the back of us, he was drunk & and high on coke, luckily he wasn’t goin too fast & nobody was seriously hurt & he got away with because we didn’t want to grass him up! Drugs can seriously affect your concentration when driving.
god know i’d never be able to do it. but…..my boyfriend can get so out of his face and yet pulls it together and can drive home and were always a least 2 hours away from a party. but i swear he’s a beta driver, its well weird. i get propa para tho, one time i was sat there while he was drivin and thought i could him cruchin on somethin i went mad, and then i thought he was blastin westlife on the radio?? and i dont take acid or anythin of the kind? wwwooo
TBH I reckon its not so much the journey to the rave which is the danger, its the “comedown journey”… the driver is tired and passengers are often irritable and a bit paranoid…. can cause a lot of stress and extra risks..
well my boyfriends got the directional skills of a goldfish! he aint got a clue so most of the time we end up lost bcuz were all zoned out and cant help him hahah bless
driving is so over rated.. people act like its hard or something. if u can walk to ur car, then u should be able to drive ur car:bounce_fl
Nah mate it’s not just whether or not you can drive, it’s other cars on the road and stuff. you may be blitzed off your tits and can drive fine in a straight line but then another car pulls out and u crash cos ur so fixed on the road. too many people are overconfident when driving, it’s the cars around you that can fuck things up too. Plus theres just too many cars on the road these days to think your always gonna be fine, it’s fairly inevitable your gonna come accross some trouble on the road whether wrecked or not and might not even be ur fault. But yeh i drive with spliffs on the go and so do most of my friends, and occasionally drive back from party’s slightly buzzing, as long as ur not putting innocent people in life threatning positions ur good to drive. oh and if u dont have dicks in the back seat “yeh man go faster!” “handbrake turn!” e.t.c
look at where you live, and where everyone else on this thread lives..
You are lucky enough to be in a huge country where there are many long straight roads with lots of room to swerve about and avoid other traffic – a country which was pretty much built around the concept of giving space for the motor car above humans or anything else.
Most of the others here all live in the UK and Europe; countries are smaller and particularly in Britain roads are narrow with many bends, sharp corners and other bits where you cannot easily see oncoming traffic.
It is way more dangerous here to drive when you are too high, many people we know from the rave scene have been hurt or died due to collisions because they drove when they were too far gone.
And even in America you are just as dead after a crash or just as busted (if not more so) if the highway patrol catches up with you…
