College English Assignment Here's a prime example of "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" offered by an English professor from the University of Phoenix. The professor told his class one day, "Today we will
experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The process is simple. Each person will pair
off with the person sitting to his or her immediate right. As homework tonight, one of you will write the first paragraph of a short story. You will e-mail your partner that paragraph and send another copy to
me. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another paragraph to the story
and send it back, also sending another copy to me. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so on back-and-forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time in order to keep the
story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking outside of the e-mails and anything you wish
to say must be written in the e-mail. The story is over when both agree a conclusion has been reached."
The following was actually turned in by two of his English students: Rebecca and Gary.
THE STORY
(first paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile. But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.
(second paragraph by Gary)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named
Laurie with whom he had spent one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17," he
said into his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance so far..." But before he could sign off a bluish particle beam flashed out of nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The jolt from the direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.
(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately, but not before he felt one last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The news
simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window, dreaming of her youth, when
the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with no newspaper to read, no television to distract her from her sense of innocent wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose
one's innocence to become a woman?" she wondered wistfully.
(Gary)
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the Unilateral Aerospace disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth
a defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly
initiated their diabolical plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The President, in his top-secret mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor off the coast of
Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized poor, stupid Laurie.
(Rebecca)
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.
(Gary)
Yeah? Well, my writing partner is a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh, shall I have chamomile tea? Or shall I have some other sort of
F**KING TEA??? Oh no, what am I to do? I'm such an air headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels!"
(Rebecca)
Asshole.
(Gary)
Bitch
(Rebecca)
F**K YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!
(Gary)
Go drink some tea - whore.
(TEACHER)
A+ - I really liked this one.

Illusionist Derren Brown put a Roehampton University student into a trance and woke him up in Morocco, a newspaper has reported.
Richard Critchlow, 21, found himself in a chaotic Marrakech market after sleeping through a 13-hour trip.
He stumbled out of a photo booth in the North African state after being hypnotised in an identical one in England.
Brown told the Daily Mirror: "He was in a deep sleep. He had no sense of any time passing at all.
"His profound bewilderment eventually gave way to huge delight."
After being hypnotised, Mr Critchlow from Wolverhampton was whisked off to Heathrow Airport.
The student was slumped in a wheelchair as he was put on a plane, flown to Morocco then wheeled through passport control.
He was then placed in the set-up booth in Marrakech's Djema al Fna market.
He emerged looking dumbstruck, as street sellers approached him with dates, nuts and juice, the paper said.
He was allowed to wander through the streets before Brown let him in on the prank.
Mr Crichlow had answered an advertisement to appear on Brown's new show Trick or Treat on Channel 4 next month.

Report: Drugs can be harmless
By ONLINE REPORTER
March 08, 2007
COMMENT ON THIS STORY
ILLEGAL drugs can be “harmless” and should no longer be “demonised”, a wide-ranging two-year study concludes today. The report says Britain’s drug laws are “not fit for purpose” and should be torn up in favour of a system which recognises that drinking and smoking can cause more harm.
The RSA Commission on Illegal Drugs, set up in January 2005, also called for the main focus of drugs education to shift from secondary to primary schools and recommends the introduction of so-called “shooting galleries” - rooms where users can inject drugs.
The report, compiled by a panel of academics, politicians, drugs workers, journalists and a senior police officer, also calls for the Home Office to be stripped of its lead role in drugs policy.
It recommends that the Misuse of Drugs Act be scrapped in favour of a wider-ranging Misuse of Substances Act abandoning the current ABC classification system in favour of an “index of harms”.
The system, it says, is “crude, ineffective, riddled with anomalies and open to political manipulation”, while existing drugs education is often “inconsistent, irrelevant, disorganised” and “delivered by people without adequate training”.
Current laws, the panel claims, have been “driven by moral panic” with large amounts of money wasted on “futile” efforts to stop supply rather than going after the criminal networks behind the drugs on British streets.
At the heart of the report is a call for an end to what the panel call the
“criminal justice bias” of current policy in favour of an approach treating addiction as a health and social problem rather than simply a cause of crime.
The report, which aims to influence a Government review of drug strategy next year, also calls for jail sentences to be given for only the most serious drugs-related crimes and for addicts to be given jobs and housing as part of treatment.
Do not demonise drugs Mmmmm
Quote:
A major new report on the fight against illegal drugs in Britain says many are "harmless" and should no longer be "demonised".
The two-year study has urged a radical re-think in policy and found that current legislation is a failure, hopelessly out of date, and in parts irrelevant.
And it warns that policy is too often made on the basis of panic, political point-scoring and misplaced moral outrage, instead of pragmatic assessment of what really works.
It says it should be recognised that drinking and smoking can cause more harm.
And it calls for the main focus of drugs education to shift from secondary to primary schools and recommends the introduction of so-called "shooting galleries" - rooms where users can inject drugs.
It argues that Britain's drugs problem should be treated predominantly as a medical, rather than a criminal, issue.
The Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce http://www.rsa.org.uk/projects/drugs.asp also urges a rethink in the way in which drug treatment is offered.
It says future policy should be aimed at minimising the harm from drug use, rather than attempting the impossible task of eradicating drug use itself.
It says it is "illogical, expensive and inefficient" to offer treatment primarily to those found to be using drugs when they have committed a crime.
Report author Steve Rossell said steps needed to be taken "to avoid the swings between taking a criminal justice agenda line and a public health line and get a broad-based approach to actually tackling drug use".
Jackie Squibb is a recovering addict who agrees that criminalising drug takers does little to help them beat their addiction.
" I had a little girl, and when you start using crack and heroin, nothing seems to matter," she said.
"All the problems and everything that you've got, and all the troubles... just the way you feel, you can just block everything out by using that kind of drug.
"And that's what happened for me. It just took all my pain away."
But Iain Duncan Smith, chair of the Conservative Social Justice Policy Group, called the report "worryingly complacent" and accused the authors of "not doing their homework".
The RSA Commission report urges an acceptance that drugs are a fact of life. Some four million people use at least one illicit drug each year, according to Home Office figures.

Sex offender bailed for wedding I just don't get that..:hopeless: How the hell can a judge do that..
What a stupid judge and what a stupid women. :yakk::yakk::yakk:
Who the hell marry a sex offender :yakk::yakk::yakk:
Quote:
A judge has been criticised for varying the bail conditions of a sex offender, allowing him to spend his wedding night in a hotel.
Kelvin Wagstaff, 36, from Bridgend, admitted two sex offences involving children at Cardiff Crown Court.
Sentencing is due to take place later this month, but Judge Philip Richards allowed his bail conditions to be changed for his wedding this Friday.
AM and MP David Davies described the decision as "absolutely extraordinary".
Mr Davies said that after pleading guilty Wagstaff should "have been remanded into custody immediately whilst awaiting sentence and certainly not given bail conditions that could then be relaxed in order for him to go swanning off to a hotel somewhere."
At an earlier hearing Wagstaff pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a girl under 13 and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16
Another charge of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 16 was ordered to lie on the file.
On Monday Wagstaff's barrister Jennet Treharne made a successful application to Judge Richards to vary his bail conditions.
Under the changes Wagstaff must still adhere to a curfew at the hotel between 1800 GMT to 0800 GMT.
The conditions will transfer back to his home address following Friday's wedding celebrations.
MP Mr Davies has Prescoed open jail, which houses sex offenders, in his Monmout
constituency.
He said Wagstaff's victims' and their parents "must be appalled that a man who has pleaded guilty to a severe sexual offence is being allowed to go off and have a honeymoon in a hotel somewhere".:yakk:
"As a father of young children myself, I think it is absolutely disgusting."
No sympathy
He added: "I suspect that part of the problem is that prisons are so full that judges are being told unofficially not to put people in them".
Michele Elliot, director of the child protection charity, Kidscape, said: "I think the judge would have done the future bride a favour by insisting that the man adhered to his bail conditions.
"He obviously is a danger to children and I hope there are no children at the wedding.
"I have no sympathy for his wedding plans. Considering what he has done he does not deserve the courtesy of being allowed to get married."
