Marketing stunt backfires :laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:
Not good.... not good
Shame on Dr Pepper
Quote:
Cadbury Schweppes has apologised after a marketing stunt forced the closure of a historic graveyard in the US city of Boston.
The 347-year-old Old Granary Burial Ground was shut after Cadbury's Dr Pepper unit hid a gold coin there as part of a 23-city treasure hunt promotion.
Thousands of people flocked to the cemetery to find the coin, prompting fears that graves would be desecrated.
The cemetery is the final resting place of American Revolutionary patriots Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, as well as about 5,000 other people.
Customers entering the promotion bought specially-marked bottles of Dr Petter each day to get codes printed on them.
Entering the codes on the Dr Pepper website brought up daily clues.
The 29th clue for Boston indicated the coin was in the vicinity of the Orpheum Theatre, across the street from the cemetery, with the 30th and final clue saying: "You're hot on the trail, though the place may feel chilly.
The coin rests by the name of a patriot at rest in Philly."
That clue was released Tuesday at 3 am, and within minutes, dozens of people were camped out in front of the cemetery, waiting for it to open.
Cadbury Schweppes donated the $10,000 (£5,000) Boston prize to the graveyard for "its time and trouble,'' the Boston Globe reported.
It also said that the company would pay the city $500 (£255) for a police team called to guard the cemetery.
The problems caused Dr Pepper to cancel the entire promotion, meaning that the top prize of $1m (£510,000) will not be won.
"It absolutely is disrespectful," said Boston Parks Commissioner Toni Pollak. "It's an affront to the people who are buried there, our nation's ancestors."

Our watch words are
love dance and happiness
We are happy to inform that we have now all signatures for the Greenspirit Festival on New Year 2006/07.
We felt strongly that the Festival is welcomed and are delighted that no major complaints in regard of the last happening where made.
There has been the request by the religious communities close by, to reduce temporarily the sound level during the prayers in daytime. We have of course agreed to this understandable request and are pleased that there are no further objections. This does not affect the rest and nighttime anyhow.
We hereby would like to thank everybody in the area for the great tolerance and positive attitude towards this event.
Furthermore we are working on an improved sound concept for the massive system as we could be heard several kilometers away
Also this year we would like to emphasize that the Kingdom of Thailand has no tolerance for substances and drug abuse and we clearly recommend once more not to get involved with drugs.
After the last party with all its positive energy from the international crowd it is well proven that a good party vibe is not dependent on chemicals.
However we want to take the opportunity once more to thank all the people who came and made this fabulous party happening.
Party people from many nations where represented on the Greenspirit Festival 2005/6; Indian, Japanese, European, Russian, Israeli and Thai people enjoyed the powerful nature and excellent sound during the 3 days of love dance and happiness.
A big welcome goes out to all the psytrance lovers around the globe, we look forward to see many of you on the dance floor for a fantastic start into 2007.

New Iraqi oil law, vulture funds and global surveillance undermines democracy! Watch: http://play.rbn.com/?url=demnow/demnow/demand/2007/feb/video/dnB20070220a.rm&proto=rtsp&start=
Three significant items in this issue of the Democracy Now's coverage on the war on peace:
1. A new Iraqi law being proposed paves the way for denationalizing the Iraqi oil industry and a regional breakup of the country. Also a few words on Iran, the Neo-conservative's saber rattling and a reminder the country is the world's third biggest oil producer...
2. Continued coverage of Vulture funds and third world debt.
3. A well known civil rights lawyer comments of the impact of government surveillance in the war on terror and it's affect on democracy.

Milk in tea "blocks health gain" I never drink tea without milk :yakk:
Maybe I should..
But okay the test have been made with 16 test persons,so I don't know how usefull it is :hopeless::hopeless:

Milk in tea 'blocks health gains'
Drinking tea without milk could have more health benefits
Adding milk to a cup of tea can destroy its ability to protect against heart disease, according to research.
A small German study found drinking black tea significantly improved the ability of arteries to relax and expand to keep blood pressure healthy.
But the European Heart Journal paper also found proteins in milk, called caseins, blocked this effect.
It is estimated as many as 98% of UK tea-drinkers prefer milk in their favourite cuppa.
The researchers tested the effects of tea in 16 humans and on rat tissue.
They showed molecules in the tea called catechins helped dilate the blood vessels by producing a chemical called nitric oxide. The caseins in milk prevented this effect by reducing the concentration of catechins in the tea.
Our results provide a possible explanation for the lack of beneficial effects of tea on the risk of heart disease in the UK
Professor Stangl
Senior researcher Dr Verena Stangl, professor of cardiology at the Charite Hospital, in Berlin, said: "Our results thus provide a possible explanation for the lack of beneficial effects of tea on the risk of heart disease in the UK, a country where milk is usually added."
However, June Davison, cardiac nurse at the British Heart Foundation (BHF), said: "It is difficult to say from this small study the impact of adding a drop of milk to your tea can make.
"The tea break is a great British tradition which provides time to relax with a cuppa in hand.
"Leaving milk out of your tea is far less likely to help protect your heart health than other measures, such as taking regular exercise, avoiding smoking and eating a healthy balanced diet."
Tea benefits
But Ms Davison also said the study highlighted the importance of not just thinking about one food in isolation but the effect of the actual interaction between different foods.
Prof Stangl said the study was very complex and so could only be performed on a small number of people
Professor Andrew Steptoe of UCL's department of epidemiology and public health, who has previously carried out research into the effects of tea on recovery from stress, said that as such studies were very difficult to carry out he was not surprised that this study had been very small.
There are benefits for tea, with or without milk, so keep on drinking
Catherine Collins
On the results of the study, he added: "We would be interested to know if that sort of effect persists long-term or if it is just an acute effect of tea."
Prof Steptoe also said that as there were about 200 bioactive compounds in tea the apparent effect of milk of vasodilation "does not necessarily mean milk negates the other effects of tea".
Catherine Collins, a dietician and spokesperson for the British Dietetic Society, agreed that tea was a "very healthy drink" and pointed out that drinking it with milk in would boost calcium intake.
She said: "There are benefits for tea, with or without milk, so keep on drinking."
Bill Gorman, chairman of the Tea Council, also said the study was "another very positive piece of research for tea as it's clear that the researchers recognise that tea has significant health effects".

UK : Is Britains rail infrastructure totally ancient and knackered? Been wondering about this for a while - that prang in the North prompted me to post this...
I don't drive so tend to use trains a fair bit for getting around to more distant places.
Since privatisation the train companies have spent loads on new branding and painting trains etc but stations don't really look like they have changed much since 20 years ago or so...
sometimes the cables for the electric trains round here malfunction and the newspapers said it was all the original 1940s kit (mind you the same is true for the leccy in the villages as well) - and there has been little investment since privatisation...
After NYE I was walking back to a friends house and we went past the main railway line - I saw this signal that looked like it would be more suited for the "Harry Potter Train" (I don't know the correct name for it but its one of those you see in old movies with an arm that goes up and down)
Its 2007 FFS - is all this stuff actually still in use?

Your best clubbing experience… Although my clubbing days were pretty limited and consisted mostly of going to Prism in Oxford in the early 90's, I'd have to say going to see Paul Van Dijk at Home in Sydney was my best clubbing experience. The venue was pretty good and so was the music, but the crowd we're definately well into it and just wouldn't stop dancing ( :bounce_g: ) which's always a bonus. Most amusing though was watching some random dj trying to fend off 4 very cute looking blonde tenny bobbers all trying to shove 'rugs down his troat at the same time as he left the decks...123
