AMERICAN DJ NEEDS PLACE TO STAY
I live in Denver, Colorado. I'm moving to London on February 26th for 2-3 months. I'll be coming along with a good friend of mine who also spins Jungle. Considering that I'm a broke bastard and any extra cash that I have will go towards buying vinyl, we need to find somewhere to stay for as cheap as possible. Prefferably with another DJ that needs some help to pay the rent. I'd like to stay as close to Central London as possible, near all the good DnB weeklies and recordshops.
For the first days or weeks that we get into town, we'll be staying at one of the Astor Hostels (maybe Leinster).
If anyone is looking for a couple of American fuks that would down to help pay rent in return for room and board... then PLEASE email me at: colokidHC@hotmail.com

Police fail to stop rave
BBC News - Thursday, 3 January, 2002, 19:15 GMT
A Lincolnshire farmer has accused police of failing to stop illegal ravers from taking over his sheds on New Year's Eve.
David Benton, of Moorby, said about 70 revellers smashed down his farm gate, drove a lorry-load of disco equipment onto this property and set fire to pallets.
He called Lincolnshire Police, who sent two officers, but said ravers could not be evicted because there were fewer than 100 trouble-makers involved.
Mr Benton, 44, said: "I will defend my property, and I will use violence if I have to if this happens again. The police have already said they will arrest me if I do."
'Totally irresponsible'
"Anybody must be able to defend their own property."
"It was like being a farmer in Zimbabwe - the police stood outside the gate while inside people were smashing up my property and they were doing nothing about it."
Lincolnshire Police said officers could only intervene to break up rave parties if certain criteria were met.
Inspector John Ginty stressed: "The law states that there must be more than 100 people in the open air, causing a public disruption - those conditions were not met in this case.
"These people are totally irresponsible and totally reckless and have no regard for other people's property, but this was a practical, proportionate response to what was taking place."
Fire worry
Chief Superintendent Kevin Morris, of the Police Superintendents' Association, said: "You have to use your common sense and ask what could a group of officers realistically do?"
"You'd need 200 officers to deal with 100 revellers if they didn't want to leave."
Mr Benton said he was very concerned about the danger of nitrogen fertiliser stored on the farm catching fire.
His wife Sarah said: "I don't agree with vigilantism and I don't agree with what Tony Martin did at all."
"But you can understand someone getting to that state," she said.
A police spokesman warned: "While we have every sympathy with Mr Benton he will obviously be on a very sticky wicket if he does take any direct action in the future."

Dutch tackle drug smuggling boom
The Dutch Government is bringing in emergency measures to tackle the sharp rise in drug smuggling through Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.
The move follows public outrage after it was revealed that instead of being locked up, some drugs couriers arrested at the airport have been released with a court summons because of a shortage of prison cells.
Prime Minister Wim Kok said that until now it had been too easy for drugs smugglers to get into the planes and that all flights must be so tightly controlled that the drugs couriers won't want to come through Schiphol.
Customs officials estimate that up 25,000 drug couriers passed through Schiphol last year, and only 1,200 were arrested.
But that number was a 60% increase over the year 2000.
Extra staff
Last month, six cocaine smugglers detained at the airport were released in error by overworked officials.
Now the so-called Schiphol team of airport police and customs will get 100 extra men.
The government also wants to build a 350-cell prison at Ossendrecht barracks near the Belgian border.
Justice Minister Benk Korthals has been heavily criticised by MPs for not bringing drastic measures in sooner.
Politicians want a guarantee that no more drugs couriers will walk away after being arrested.
"This is the most difficult problem for me - I hope that we don't send away any prisoners," said Mr Korthals.
"It is not orthodox, but it is a very far going measure I take, everyone can see that we have a very big problem."
Mr Korthals will have some tough questions to answer when parliament debates the issue next week.
Caribbean connection
Soft drugs can be bought legally and used in small quantities in the Netherlands.
But the maximum sentence for importing hard drugs is 12 years imprisonment.
Most smugglers come from the Dutch Antilles, in the Caribbean, and transport drugs by swallowing them in condoms.
The new measures target these couriers in particular and include new scanning equipment at Dutch Caribbean airports, extra prison guards and cells on the islands and even withdrawing the passports of Dutch and Dutch Caribbean nationals who are arrested.
The BBC's Geraldine Coughlan in The Hague says that if Minister Korthals can convince parliament that his new package of measures is enough to tackle Schiphol airport's smuggling problem, he may be able to save his political skin and perhaps turn this crisis to his advantage ahead of general elections in May.

Police hunt dealer as teenager dies
BBC News - Monday, 21 January, 2002, 11:46 GMT
Police in south Wales are looking for a 21-year-old known drug dealer in connection with the investigation into ecstasy which is believed to have contributed to the death of a teenager.
Detectives believe that four other people have been made ill using ecstasy in Merthyr Tydfil - two are still being treated in hospital.
There have been a number of police raids on houses in the area and South Wales Police have issued an appeal for help in tracing the source of the drug.
Gavin David Dwyer, from Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, collapsed outside the Kirkhouse nightclub in the town at around 1230GMT on Sunday 20 January .
The 18-year-old died on the way to Prince Charles Hospital in the town.
During the early hours of Sunday morning several other people were treated at the hospital for what is believed to have been the effects of ecstasy, said police
They are now concerned for the safety of anyone who may have taken the drug, especially in the Merthyr area.
"Gavin is believed to have taken the drug ecstasy which led to his death," said a spokesman for the force.
"Other people are thought to have attended the hospital suffering from what may be the effects of ecstasy and police are concerned for the safety of anyone who may have taken the drug.
"Any information that may assist police in tracing the source of the ecstasy that might have contributed to Gavin's death may be of benefit in preventing further casualties."
A post mortem examination is due to take place on Monday.

Clubbers’ mental health risk
BBC News - Monday, 14 January, 2002, 15:04 GMT
Clubbers who take ecstasy are 25% more likely to have a mental health disorder, compared to the general population, a survey has found.
The survey by clubbers' magazine Mixmag, for 18 to 24 year olds, found one in four who take ecstasy had a potentially serious psychiatric disorder.
The UK average is one in five.
Mixmag claim the annual survey, carried out in conjunction with Dr Adam Winstock of the National Addiction Centre at the University of Kent is "the most accurate snapshot of drug taking in young Britain today".
Its findings back up previous scientific concerns over a link between ecstasy and mental health problems.
Ecstasy users are also twice as likely to have seen a doctor about a mental health problem compared to the rest of the population.
Half of them asked about depression, which scientists believe could be linked to use of the Class A drug.
But one in 10 users believed that taking ecstasy had made their lives worse overall.
Both ecstasy and cocaine have been linked with mental health problems such as paranoia, panic attacks and depression.
Widespread drug use
The extent of drug use amongst clubbers is graphically illustrated by the fact 97% of 1,000 people surveyed said they had tried both E and cannabis at least once.
Eleven per cent have tried heroin.
Mixmag estimates 1.5m people take ecstasy every weekend.
But it says consumption has dropped by 13% among regular users.
Ecstasy use had resulted in unplanned sex for one in three, one in 100 of which resulted in pregnancies.
Half said their performance at work had been affected because of the drug.
But the survey also found clubbers had developed a novel way of ensuring Ecstasy got into their bloodstream as quickly as possible - by taking it as a suppository.
The technique was seen in the 1996 cult movie Trainspotting where Ewan McGregor's character used a heroin suppository.
One in 15 surveyed by Mixmag admitted they had taken the drug in this way, a 200% increase compared to last year.
Inserting it into the rectum allows the body to absorb it more quickly because of the large number of blood vessels in the anus. In the stomach where it has to be broken down by enzymes.
Falling cost
The cost of ecstasy has fallen to £4.12 per pill, compared with £8.83 in 1999, the survey showed.
Cocaine use fell 4%, though 45% of those surveyed said they still took the drug on a regular basis.
Almost a third of cocaine users reported suffering a nosebleed after snorting the drug.
Drug use appeared to be linked closely with high levels of alcohol use.
More than a third of men who responded to the survey spent more than four nights a week in the pub.
All respondents were three-and-a-half times more likely to injure themselves on alcohol than on ecstasy.
They were also two-and-a-half times more likely to end up in the local casualty department.
The survey also showed one in three said they had been violent on alcohol, compared with one in 10 on ecstasy.
Twice as many had driven on ecstasy than on alcohol but drink drivers had a higher accident rate.
Viv Craske, senior editor of Mixmag, said: "Hopefully what our survey respondents have to say will reach all the right ears and open up the debate on drug taking even further, making clubbing safer."
He added that part of the fall in ecstasy use may have been due to the death of 19-year-old Lorna Spinks, the student who died last May after taking ecstasy while clubbing with friends in Cambridge.
Harry Shapiro, of the drugs charity DrugScope, said the survey results could be affected by the fact people chose whether or not to respond.
He said: "It is likely that those people who use recreational drugs on regular basis are also more likely to develop a mental health problem than those who do not use drugs."

Union angry at farm raves
BBC News - Friday, 4 January, 2002, 17:49 GMT
Farm leaders are calling on police to deal more effectively with illegal raves after two farmers were prevented from removing party-goers from their properties.
Police arrested an Essex farmer on Boxing Day when he tried to confront ravers who took over his barn for a party.
The National Farmers' Union plans to investigate the incident, after a similar case in Lincolnshire on New Year's Eve in which a farmer was stopped from evicting 70 ravers from his sheds.
Police said the 40-year-old Essex farmer, Graeme Stephen, from Great Dunmow, was arrested to prevent a public order disturbance.
'Extraordinary' method
An NFU spokeswoman said: "Where farmers are suffering from illegal raves, or from similar situations, we would urge the police to effectively police these events.
"It would seem an extraordinary way to deal with the situation."
An Essex Police spokesman said police found up to 70 ravers in the barn at midnight being "confronted verbally by the barn owner".
"After repeated attempts to calm the situation the officer arrested the barn owner for breach of the peace in the interests of public safety, fearing the situation was getting out of hand.," he added.
Mr Stephen was taken to a police station and later released without charge.
He turned off a generator being used to power the event.
The farmer said the ravers had broken through a padlocked gate and the barn locks.
'Incredibly frustrating'
In reply to the NFU criticism Essex Police said: "The act only applies to raves held in the open air, this one was held in a barn.
The NFU spokeswoman said: "It is incredibly frustrating and distressing for anyone to have to stand by and watch their property being wrecked with no power to prevent it.
Simon Fisher, the NFU policy advisor for Lincolnshire, said the latest incidents had again highlighted the need for police to tackle the issue of rural policing.
Mr Benton is determined to defend his property
He said farmers were concerned that police could not respond to serious incidents in rural areas.
An organiser of the rave, who did not wish to be named, said: "If the council were to give us a barn out of the way to use we would use it, we would even go as far as to pay for it."
The man, who has been organising raves in Essex for five years, said the venue was cleared up when the rave ended at 0900 GMT.
He insisted no padlocks had been broken to gain entry.
The police spokesman said the barn was not damaged.
Lincolnshire farmer David Benton, 44, said this week he was prepared to use violence to stop people breaking into his property and holding raves.
He issued the warning after claiming police stood by and did nothing when 100 ravers took over his sheds and held a loud New Year party.

Soundsystem Application Form – Ganja Day May 4th 2002
Howdee,
The fourth, annual, international cannabis festival is scheduled to take place on the 4/5/2002. As before several soundsystems will form part of the festival. In the interests of us all, this proposal form is intended to make the selection of these soundsystems as fair and democratic as possible. If you're interested we'd like you to fill out this form, supply us with an example of your sound on CD or Mini-disc and then soundystems will be chosen at a core group meeting of the festival organisers.
We are a free festival, we have no money and large debts. We need crews who are self-sufficient, financially, with a large enough crew with stewarding skills and physical infrastructure eg tents, lights, speakers. We've raised a lot of our own funds through benefits and events, this is vital to the sustainability of the festival and will ensure that the cannabis festival continues to happen. This means if soundsystems can run one their regular gigs, or a one off benefit or are able to support fundraising in any way then that would be fab.
We also expect that systems will promote the festival and benefits through their own networks alongside our own promotions team. Thanks for your interest. Viva la Ganja.
Soundystem Name
Contact Name Phone E-mail
Rig Size Do you have a tent (if yes what size?)
What do you do? (provide a brief biog, history of your system and an outline of your intentions at Ganja Day)
How will you look? (eg visuals, lights, décor etc how will the space be managed)
Are you able to provide a bar with all funds going towards the festival? (we will supply beer, pallets etc have you got volunteers who can work on a bar)
How many vehicles do you have and what size?
(usually only two vehicle passes per system will be acceptable)
What are your power requirements? (if you use your own generator then it must be diesal)
Anything else you need/want to tell us?
please send cd's etc to ganja day sounds, 73 brailsford rd, brixton, sw2 2tb or mail ganjadaysounds@yahoo.co.uk

I'm starting a PhD on memory and drugs and I need to find any people who have experienced flashbacks or any weird sensory/perceptual experience whilst not on drugs that they think may be realted to their use. It is a completely confidential survey and I can pay people for participating, so if you or any one you know thinks they may have had an experience like this, I'd really appreciate it if you could contact me. This work will help in our understaning of drugs and so helping me can help us all etc. bollocks. But anything you could do to help would be wicked.  celiamorgan@hotmail.com
