so every year loads of people start threads about mushrooms
shall we keep it to one thread this year?
try not to reveal the places to pick
remember that mushrooms are now class A (miximum penalty for possession / supply)
remember to flick the caps before you pick, to help release the spores, so that further growth is possible
eating them fresh means that you will ingest both active ingredients, whereas drying, freezing etc means you lose the psilocycin (?)
best recipes in my book are:
1) chuck em in a stew that has already been cooked just before you eat
2) just chew up a few heads at a time, fresh, and wash down with farm house cider
what else do we cover every year?
oh yes, unless you know exactly how to distinguish a liberty cap from the many varieties that look extremely similar, don’t pick them… you could have a very nasty poisoning
try a few at first if you are inexpereinced
and most of all, have fun picking through the sheep shit in the rain
liberty caps have a slim, spindley, smooth stem, often a little darker at the bottom than the top, dark ‘gills’ under the head, a brown head, with a distinctive nipple
some lookalikes have very similar features, but may feature, for example, paler or slightly orange ‘gills’, a slightly orange stem, a domed cap, a thicker stem
as i said before, unless you are absolutley certain of how to distinguish one mushroom from another (ie. have some mycelogical knowlegde) make ure you are with someone who does, or don’t risk it
at best you’ll end up with stomach cramps, at worst you could be spending the rest of the weekend having your stomach pumped out in A&E
stay safe, have fun
and watch out for badgers raaa
I’ve heard a lot of urban myths about a park in Surrey/bordering London where you can go and pick ‘shrooms
But then there’s the whole “is it good? is it bad??” dilemma =|
…Well, beats picking strawberries 🙂
what dilema?
fuck i love this time of year! no beter way to start the day than with a bit of majie picking:love: cant believe they made um class A!!!
after having a mission trying to get them i thought i might try my hand at picking a few but wanna look into it first. if any one knows any good sites for info it’d be a big help. or any pointers as to where abouts they tend to grow, what time of day and how long the season lasts.
plus i heard they only grow on frosty/foggy mornings?? is that true?
they dun like frost, they cant grow thro them……. rainy or misty mornings r purfect, they like fields wit plenty of sheep shite n if u find a slope facin sunrise then ur well in luck, if u go at the rite time u can c the little buggas poppin up around u, gotta pick ur way out so to speak:love:

best places are fields that have been used for grazing sheep / cattle
south facing slopes, after rain, first thing in the morning, again just before dusk if it’s cold and wet enough
the first frost ends the season
Been out a few times this week. Early signs are showing it to be a decent year. If only i can keep my fields a secret
Last year i traded at guilfest, and a mushroom seller was set up opposite.
They were also selling nos, but were not huffing the balloon properly. So on sat i went over with my whippets and creamer and showed them how to huff it properly. Later one got so mashed he passed out and fell off his chair backwards.
Anyway back to mushies, on sat night pass out dude came over to me and gave me bout 1/2 kilo fresh mushies “here ya go man, im never doin that nos shit again, mushies are class a from monday so have these we got loads and wont be able to flog em all”
Sun afternoon his partner come over on the sly with a whole kilo “hey dude that was fuckin class with the nos, have these if we get pulled up on way home we’re fucked if we got these cos of stall and advertising shit, so they’re yours”
A fuckin kilo and a half of mushies, i couldnt believe my luck. Anyway i got home and dried them and saved them for my bro’s stag night last august, now that was a night to remember.

safe cheers for the info. might give it a go later if im up that early.
should be fun
gonna head off in a bit with a few mates, know a good sun rise facing cow field so it will be worth havin a go. but will be takin all my wildlife books and a my sas survivle book just to be sure. dont want everyone pickin destroying angels:yakk:
For sure…. They got a way of curing Amatoxin poisoning now but it ain’t pleasant…:yakk::yakk::yakk:
Good luck with the hunt though… Look for a field with power pylons running over it if you can find one – I’ve noticed they tend to make mushrooms grow in serious quantities (all the places I’ve been to that have resulted in having too many shrooms to eat them all have had pylons, and they seem to grow nearby). Not sure why – maybe EMI or something…
If you want a good place to learn about general mushrooms, try https://www.weekendgardener.net/what-happened-to-rogers-mushrooms/?msID=4bcf68bd-4381-4ade-92cd-da3b2bc3a3de – quite helpful, and lists hallucinogenic for ones that are, which most sites/books don’t – they just say poisonous…Lots of good general help/info and pics as well to help ID any mushrooms (plently of tasty food shrooms about this time of year too)… The kind you want (including some good photos, and info on where to look for them) are described here
