My request: Dear all, we are working on an article for this Sunday's newspaper looking at how the use of cannabis by teenagers is being manifested in Britain's schools and what is being done to educate young people about the risks etc. As ever, we'd be interested in receiving any comments that people may wish to make, as well as any new facts and figures, reports, campaign launches etc etc!! Thanks, Jonathan

Training dogs helps disruptive teenagers

Midhurst in West Sussex is about as well-to-do as any small town in England. A mile or so outside, in a converted farm surrounded by peaceful, rolling hills, is the headquarters of a charity called Canine Partners.
The centre is dedicated to the training of assistance dogs - mostly Labradors and golden retrievers. Here the dogs learn the extraordinary skills they need to help give independence to disabled people.
All the kids went through an emotional journey and all of them gained something real from the experiment. Whether three or four months can change them forever remains to be seen, though so far the signs look good.

What a great idea
cannabis "warning" I was recently caught having a joint with a couple of friends, all under 18. Two police officers jumped us from behind and gave us a lecture before confiscating said spliff and just tossing it. They couldn't search us as they were without a female officer. They took our names and addresses and I have been told that I now have a warning and the next time I am caught with cannabis I will be immediately arrested, in his words I have been given a "yellow card". This reeks of bullshit. For a start, they have absolutely no evidence. One of the officers pulled out a camera and then put it away again without taking any pictures (nice guy). I personally was not in posession and was not the one holding the joint when they approached us. They didn't escort us home or call our parents. My friend reckons they are lying about giving a caution just to scare us and won't even file anything. I'm just really confused as to what has actually happened. Surely they can't give me a warning on the grounds of standing next to someone who was holding a joint, and without telling my parents about it?
Hand free sets just as dangerous
Quote:
Drivers talking on hands-free mobile phones are just as dangerous as those holding phones, a Government study has found.
Drivers who use earpieces or speakers still have slow reaction times and are likely to miss hazards and signs, according to the research.
Using a hand-held phone while driving is punishable by a £60 frine and three penalty points.
But the report, carried out by the Transport Research Laboratory, said that this could encourage drivers to think hands-free kits were safe.
It said that hands-free phones may also have to be banned and suggested that employers tell staff not to use any phone while driving for work.
The report concluded: "This study deomonstrates that driving and talking is cognitively demanding and results in poorer driving performance.
"Talking on a hands-free phone while driving can result in poor decision making."
Recent studies in Australia and the US also found that hands-free phones were no safer than hand-held phones.
A study by the University of Utah found that driving while using any type of phone was as bad as drink-driving.
:crazy::crazy::crazy:
So what next?
Ban talking to passengers?
listening to the radio?
Traffic reports?
Taxi Drivers talking on the radio?
Police communicating with headquarters?
What on earth do we do if we sneeze or wont we be allowed to?
Do you think hands-free kits should be banned too ?

Iranians release British sailors
Quote:
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says 15 British naval personnel captured in the Gulf are free to leave
He repeated Iran's view that the British sailors and marines "invaded" Iranian waters, but said they were being released as a "gift" to Britain. He said they would be taken to Tehran airport and flown home within hours.
Downing Street welcomed news of the release, while Iranian state media said the British crew members "shouted for joy" on hearing the news. Television pictures showed the Iranian president smiling and chatting with the crew. He joked to one: "How are you? So you came on a mandatory vacation?"
The Britons were wearing suits, rather than the military uniform and tracksuits they wore in previous pictures. The one female crew member, Faye Turney, wore a blue headscarf with dark pink shirt.
An unidentified crew member said: "I'd like to say that myself and my whole team are very grateful for your forgiveness. I'd like to thank yourself and the Iranian people... Thank you very much, sir." Mr Ahmadinejad responded in Farsi: "You are welcome."
Good to see that this endend sensibly :group_hug12
No more headaches
:laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at::laugh_at:
Woman comes home and tells her husband, "Remember those headaches I've been having all these years? Well, they're gone." "No more headaches?"The husband asks, "What happened?"
His wife replies, Margie referred me to a hypnotist. He told me to stand in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat 'I do not have a headache; I do not have a headache, I do not have a headache.' It worked. The headaches are all gone."
His wife then says, "You know, you haven't been exactly a ball of fire in the bedroom these last few years. Why don't you go see the hypnotist and see if he can do anything for that?" The husband agrees to try it.
Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes, picks up his wife and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed and says, "Don't move, I'll be right back”. He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later and jumps into bed and makes passionate love to his wife like never before. His wife says, "Damn! That was wonderful!" The husband says, "Don't move! I will be right back." He goes back into the bathroom, comes back and round two was even better than the first time. The wife sits up and her head is spinning. Her husband again says, "Don't move, I'll be right back." With that, he goes back in the bathroom. This time, his wife quietly follows him and there, in the bathroom, she sees him standing at the mirror and saying,
She's not my wife.
She's not my wife.
She's not my wife.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday.
Advice Please? I am goin to uni in september and need a laptop for when i go, but i will also need it to make music with it.
Does anyone have any recommendations of any good laptops that could be used for making music as well as just general computer stuff?
Would it be easier to just get a laptop and whack a good soundcard in there, or to buy a package from somewhere where its all already made for music (all the software and soundcard all setup already).
I'll want to run stuff like cubase, reason and perhaps ableton (when i get it) on there as well as recording from some hardware onto it, so i'd want as good sound quality as i can get.
Im on a pretty tight budget of about £1000 (£1500 if i really push it).
I dont know shit about computers so i dont know really whats good or not.
Anyone have any recommendations, or links to sites where i can buy good (preferably cheap) laptops?
Nice one
