This is where it can get rough - parties and recreational substances are thin on the ground, people are facing up 2 comedowns, debts, boring jobs / unemployment (and at least in the UK) apalling weather (its pissing down nearly all the time at the moment and places are flooding!)
And the news is full of warnings of imminent war/terrorist attack :(
its easy with all this 4 people 2 start feeling despondent; indeed this is a very bad time 4 suicides/mental illness. Especially 4 those who may be homeless, or experiencing conflict within their familiy due to their participation in the alternative scenes
so at the risk of sounding like a soppy hippy (well perhaps I am half a hippy) - LOOK AFTER YOURSELVES, AND EACH OTHER.
Perhaps phone or visit the people you party with midweek 2 check they are all OK - 2 check that if they are squatters (or just skint through unemployment) that they have sufficient food, essentials etc.
If you have skills that can contribute towards a communal space (like being a builder or sparky) help out if you can; give people support if possible 2 keep them on the right direction (I know sometimes it is easy especially 4 younger ppl 2 get dragged in2 doing da wrong kind of stuff 2 make money).
OK maybe a lot of you do this already; but it sometimes seems people have 12 hours of fun at the party and then during the week forget (not deliber8ly, just due to other life pressures) the sense of community and people that caused that party 2 happen in the first place...
Whilst 2002 has been a variable year for the party scene and alternative culture (we have been constantly battling the darkside, be that negative vibes from authorities, ordinary ppl who get the wrong idea about or scene or even sum of da people @ events), the sheer amount of events have shown that this scene is destined 2 keep going for some time.
but that is just one part of our battle. Our next part is 2 get this scene 2 be more than just "a party where u cane loads of drugs" (after all u could do that at Gatecrasher ;) - what we need is a sustainable scene with more people creating their own part of it in the form of music, art, events, technology transfer (such as this forum), planet-friendly lifestyles .... if u don't know what I mean read Headfuk's excellent Rupture magazine 4 some ideas...
perhaps we want a scene where the wider community feels included rather than left out (that way we should get less hassle from authorities - at the end of the day cops only represent the morals of Joe and Joanne Average)

NTL 'to axe 4,000 jobs'
NTL will this week announce that 4,000 jobs in the UK are to be lost following its merger with cable rival Telewest.Head office roles will be cut and call centre jobs transferred overseas in a shake-up that affects one in every four members of staff, according to the Independent on Sunday.
Details are expected when NTL publishes its first-quarter results on Tuesday, but there will be little impact on Virgin Mobile which is being run as a separate business following its £962 million purchase last month.
The report said NTL plans to close the Woking head office of Telewest and some of the staff will be moved to its own base at Hook in Hampshire. It is also understood that most of the combined group's call centres will be outsourced, with some of the jobs going to offshore centres in India. A spokeswoman for NTL declined to respond to the report, saying the company did not comment on rumour or speculation.
NTL has radically reshaped itself since emerging from bankruptcy protection in 2003, beginning with a major financial overhaul to generate new capital and reduce interest repayment charges.
It organised a rights issue to raise £824.3 million and trimmed its workforce, with 1,500 call centre staff losing their jobs in cuts announced two years ago.
NTL and Telewest employ around 17,000 workers in the UK and the Independent on Sunday said that cuts in marketing operations are also expected on Tuesday in addition to the job losses in call centres and head offices.
The news will be a fresh blow to British industry after mobile phone giant Orange announced plans last week to axe up to 2,000 jobs under a review of its operational costs. Rival telecoms firm Cable & Wireless warned in February that it may reduce its 5,500-strong UK workforce to between 2,500 and 3,500 over the next four to five years.
It is thought that the full integration of NTL and Telewest will take up to 18 months so some of the losses will not be immediate. Voluntary redundancies and vacant positions not being filled will make up some of the cuts.
NTL merged with Telewest in March to create the largest provider of residential broadband services in the UK. It has indicated that savings will total £250 million over the next three years. The tie-up with Telewest was followed by the acquisition of Virgin Mobile, making it the first operator with a 'fourplay' offer of pay TV, internet access, fixed-line telephony and mobile calls.
FR : Dead dogs at Teknival rumour – the *truth* On SJ there were several threads linked to news articles allegiing that French dealers were cutting open live dogs to retrieve packages of drugs the dogs had been made to swallow and a number of dead dogs were retrieved from the site.
A similar rumour was published after the 2005 teknival.

I don't have time to translate the entire content but the SPA state that they did find 5 lost dogs with ID tattoos - very much alive and well - a far more positive thing as their owners can now be traced and arrangements made to reunite them with their pets!
It just shows how easy it is to demonise a minority though via the media and rumour spreading...
