kids kicked outta school do you think it should happen?
reason i'm askin this is cos i really dont think it works, and i dont know how school governers/headteachers have the fuckin stone heart to write a kid off at 15-16 as a bad un... all most end up doin is spirallin downhill, cant get a decent job, get heavy into drug/drink abuse, fightin... the usual.
it's creatin a problem, and didnt the recently make it easier for schools to expell kids? it just aint fair i dont reckon. i got kicked out for 5 months at the end of 3 n a bit years, not for anythin big put i'd pushed it too long, takin the piss. never hurt anyone just me and a few mates were notorious for all sorts of stuff, just havin a laff but pushed it.
durin these 4 months me and my few mates were just gettin high/pissed and doin absoblutely jack shit, if i hadn't finally been re-admitted i'd probably be doin somethin worse now, out of pure boredom probably.
so yeah, what do ya reckon? personally i think writin kids off is wrong, and sendin them to young offenders will both just fuck em up, write a geeza off at this age is harsh imo...
Free Party Documentary Hey everyone!
I've been using this site for a long time as a reference for a project I'm doing - though realised I haven't registered or made a post, so I decided it was about time.
For the last couple of months I've been working on a documentary on the free party movement and the subculture that surrounds it. It's for my final major project for my BTEC national diploma at college.
I was gonna ask you guys if you could help me out a bit, with a few different bits and bobs. I know it's my first post and I'm already asking you guys for help, but It seems like the best place to ask :bigsmile:
Anyways my major bonus question is if anyone has any DV footage of free parties and more importantly any controversial footage of party breakups etc. I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd ask.
I'm also looking for newspaper clippings, news recordings, magazine articles and if anyone knows any references to rave culture in modern films it'd be really appreciated. I've looked all over the internet for scanned newspaper clippings but can't find them anywhere!
I'm in the Suffolk/Norfolk area and I'm looking for people who might want to be interviewed too.
If anyone wants to donate any footage, photos etc then I'll give them full credit and give them a bit of cash for their time. I am pretty much skint so I can't promise much, though my deadline is looming and I'm pretty darn desperate.

OK, heavy stuff again but recent events on the urban music scene and the streets make me feel this thread is unfortunately necessary...
Apart from the over-zealous cops, this nasty stuff is now becoming another "macho fashion accessory" - I've seen people with cans of it for "personal protection" even at free parties, despite the fact it is classed as a firearm in Britain and the penalties for carrying it are heavy and may include prison..
we've got the following threats..
law enforcement authorities attempting to disperse a crowd
sociopaths attempting to disrupt an event (happens fairly regularly at commercial nightclubs, either an attempt to wreck a rivals event or as reprisal attack on door staff after entry refusal. Will probably become more common at unlicensed events as door staff/crews become more selective on who they let in.
sociopaths attempting to overpower a potential robbery victim
accidental discharge of the substance by a sketchy raver due to stupidity or whilst "showing off"
in many cases and particularly if a large canister is discharged in a confined space, a great number of people will be contaminated, and utter panic can spread through the crowd. it results in a large amount of people presenting for first aid and other emergency medical treatment and there can be occasional serious medical side effects (they are rare but happen).
of course door staff should prevent this stuff getting in in the first place, but how many recognise all the kinds of spray? In some countries ladies are permitted to carry "covert" sprays as defence against muggers and rapists; these are disguised as keyrings and other innocuous items or "rape alarms" - what if one of these falls into the wrong hands and is not picked up at an entry point search?
I think its definitely worth discussing how to deal with such an incident.. particularly as should it occur at an alternative event and not be caused by the law enforcement services it could happen in an uncontrolled manner when people are least expecting it
here's a start, a paper from a US university which mentions the types of irritant spray in use (clearing up the confusion regards CS "gas" and other substances), actual field studies amongst cops, first aid/decontamination techniques and other experiments.

I definitely agree with the findings, as it all ties in with the rise of more puritain lifestyles from the 1600s onwards and that sort of mentality still exists throughout middle Europe (not just the UK) even today. The flipside of course is that puritans and conservatives often do very well in business due to their disciplined lives..
