Suicide Helper Walks Free
Updated: 12:32, Thursday October 19, 2006
A man who helped his sick wife to commit suicide has walked free from court with a nine-month suspended prison sentence.
David March, 57, had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to aiding and abetting the suicide of Gillian, who had multiple sclerosis.
The court heard that Mrs March, 59, of Caterham, Surrey, had tried to kill herself on a number of occasions because of her health.
The court was told that he returned home to find Mrs March in a wheelchair, having taken Valium and with a plastic bag over her head.
He admitted to police that he tightened a string around the bag and she died half an hour after he arrived.
Passing sentence at the Old Bailey, Judge Brian Barker told March: "You were a husband who not only had a deep love for his wife but who displayed a selfless devotion to her.
"Society may understand your acts but cannot condone them."
Outside court, March said: "I just want to be left alone to get on with my life."
He had originally been charged with murder but his plea to the lesser offence was accepted after a pathologist said it was not certain that Mrs March would have survived if he had not tightened the string.
The sentence was welcomed by the pressure group Dignity In Dying.
But the British Council of Disabled People said: "What kind of message is this sending out to society where it is perceived to be easier to kill a disabled person rather than support them to live with dignity?"
Should he go free ??
15 Days On Subutex Hi Guys, new here, ive just made the transition from methadone to subutex.
Started injecting heroin at 16 after some abuse, got onto methadone, whilst still using, went all the way up to 150mls and back down to 60mls. Ive spent the last two years clean from heroin/crack and reduced my methadone to 10mls (very painfully i might add, i felt every 1ml drop for two weeks)
So I did the subutex indction after a lot of thinking (as I also have some medical conditions that complicate things, painwise etc) 15 days ago, Im stable at 6mg (went up to 8mg for a few days when the wd's were at there worst) and was gonna stay at 6mg for a few months. After reading the sub thread ive just read, maybe this is not such a good idea? Im now thinkin maybe I should get off this as quickly as possible.
Im dreading the thought of PAWS and am worried now. I think ill start reducing this ASAP.....
Any feedback and experiences with this wud be great :groucho:1234

Dream Turns To Nightmare

A wealthy American casino owner has accidentally put his elbow through a £74m Picasso painting.
Steve Wynn poked a finger-sized hole in Le Reve (The Dream) while showing it to friends at his Las Vegas office.
He had just finalised selling the famed artwork to another collector when he made the costly slip.
Director and screenwriter Nora Ephron witnessed the incident.
She said Wynn had raised his hand to show the group something about Picasso's 1932 portrait of his mistress Marie-Therese Walter.
"At that moment, his elbow crashed backward right through the canvas.
"There was a terrible noise," she added, noting Wynn had an eye disease that damages peripheral vision.
"Smack in the middle ... was a black hole the size of a silver dollar. 'Oh shit,' he said. 'Look what I've done. Thank goodness it was me.'"
Wynn has reportedly decided to release the buyer from the sale agreement and to repair and keep the painting himself.
The millionaire casino developer and art collector is famous for developing The Mirage and Bellagio resorts in Las Vegas in the 1990s.
white british terrorists – media blackout so, anyone who reads the news will have seen headlines about a school teacher who wants to wear a veil, losing her job
bad muslim :groucho:
but check this out... white, right wingers have been getting ready for a massive terrorist attack here in britain, and the papers / media totally ignored it
Quote:
We’re only interested in the sort of terrorism that suits our paranoia, says matthew carr
last week when two men appeared separately in Burnley Magistrates' Court, charged under the 1883 Explosive Substances Act with possession of an explosive substance for an illegal purpose.
One of the accused was a BNP council candidate in last May's local elections in Colne, named Robert Cottage. In a raid on his house, police found what they called "the largest amount of chemical explosives of this type ever found in this country".
The other was a retired dentist named David Jackson, who was allegedly found in possession of a rocket launcher and a nuclear biological protection suit.
Both men were accused by the prosecution of common involvement in "some kind of masterplan". What this masterplan consisted of is not yet known. Nor has the identity of the 22 chemical compounds found by police been revealed.
But what is striking about their court appearance (they were remanded until October 23) is the failure of any mainstream newspaper or media outlet to report it at all.
It is not difficult to imagine what the response might have been had two Muslims been involved. There would have been banner headlines, police statements celebrating the prevention of another apocalyptic plot, suggestions of a wider conspiracy with nebulous 'linkages' to al-Qaeda. There would have been a collective shudder at another averted outrage, experts holding forth on the dangers of dirty bombs and homemade WMD. There would have been warnings of the ongoing threat to our 'values'. Above all, there would have been fear, all of it magnified by a credulous media, fed by inside information from nameless intelligence sources.
Instead there was total silence. In a week dominated by Muslim 'stories' in which veiled women and an unpleasant taxi driver constituted evidence of the alien, dangerous subculture in our midst, two white men accused of having explosives, a nuclear protection suit and a 'masterplan' fell outside the frame of the 'war on terror' and therefore did not get mentioned beyond local papers."

Brighton is ‘drugs death capital’ Brighton and Hove has been named by researchers as the drugs death capital of Britain. A report, by the International Centre for Drug Policy at the University of London, said 51 people in the city died from drug-related deaths in 2005.
Dr Adenekan Oyefeso said many people in Brighton and Hove left drug treatment programmes prematurely which could explain the figures.
Those who were not coming forward for care must also be reached, he added.
'Hidden population'
Brighton and Hove has topped the centre's annual report for drug related deaths three years in a row.
Dr Oyefeso, from the National Programme on Substance Abuse Deaths at St George's University of London, said: "Brighton and Hove has a highly mobile population - people move there from other parts of the country."
He said people returned to "chaotic drug lifestyles" if they failed to complete treatment programmes.
"It is about reaching those who are not coming forward for treatment - the hidden population."
He said Brighton and Hove had good treatment programmes, and the drug action team worked well.
A total of 109 coroners from 120 jurisdictions in England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, submitted information, together with one procurator fiscal from Scotland.
Notification of 1,382 drug related deaths in 2005 were received by the centre, a decrease of about 6% over the number reported for 2004.
Other areas
Brighton and Hove's drug death rate, the highest in England and Wales, was 24.2 per 100,000 of the population over the age of 16, compared with a rate of 22.3 in 2004, according to information submitted by coroners.
Dumbarton was the second worst area with 13.4 deaths per 100,000.
Blackpool and the Fylde came third, with a rate of 12.8 per 100,000, followed by the Isle of Man with 11.3, East Lancashire with 10, and Liverpool with 9.4.
The report said Exeter and greater Devon had a rate of 8.8 drug related deaths in 2005, and Southampton and the New Forest had a rate of 8.7.

David Cameron [yt]V6DQkYNzvF4[/yt]
David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative opposition in the UK introduces his new site
Did he do the washing up? Does he do the washing up?
If he's listening we'll get the next video online showing us the answer - that'd be amusing, but why has he turned that into the key question of the day?
Does he think his online audience aren't interested in what policies are emerging from his leadership? I'd have thought he'd get a pretty positive reception if he focused on his policies (Or as they're currently called: "Beliefs"):
Protecting our liberties, opposing ID cards, removing wasteful tiers of regional government, there's a little policy coming out there - why doesn't he have the guts to vlog about that - to inject some revolutionary spirit and to get some support for making taking this country out of the overtaxed big brother state its become in recent years.
