- Pinned Free Your Mind in the NETHERLANDS Free Your Mind in the NETHERLANDS http://www.trancersguide.com/netherlands.html In Holland we enjoy a freedom which is suitable to the psychedelic lifestyle. Amsterdam is a beautiful international city with an abundance of coffee shops, cafes, and parks. The days of the Elf (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7) and the Trance Buddha may be in the past, but a lot of the same faces are at parties today and some of the same organizers are still on the case; there are parties every week. The scene is international with people from all over. I often see people I met at festivals in other countries back here in Holland, so it seems it is an attractive place to visit or live for a while, especially in summer. Goatrance made its way to Holland around 1994 with Dj’s Lucas, Danyel, Fidel, HC, Mitch, Yaco and Zen playing the stunning new sound at Club the Mazzo in Amsterdam. For most of us this was the first time we heard psychedelic dance music. At the time a lot of people were experimenting with psychedelic drugs like LSD; and I remember us tripping and being stunned at how profoundly suitable the music was to the state of mind we were in; as if the music was made for it; (maybe it was!?). It seems that we were not the only ones to feel this way. Soon more organizations were doing goa / psy parties, Acidophilus, Alien Heritage, Circus Hofmann and Empathy. Dave the Lunatic and crew had the yearly rejuvenation party on the beach at Wijk aan Zee which was really an unforgettable transcendental experience! The psytrance club scene moved from the Mazzo to the Trance Buddha in the Red light district of Amsterdam. The club offered more space, quality sound, two floors; and was a great venue for a number of years. Acidophilus did monthly full moon parties at the Buddha which were always on the full moon; and that meant they were often during the week. DJ-Zen was busy with a night called the Doors of Perception until the Buddha had to close in 2000. By then the Elf had been rocking for some time. The old Belgium Embassy at the Vlaardingenlaan 11 in Amsterdam had been squatted in the spring of 1998. It became the most sophisticated squat that Amsterdam has ever seen. Words don’t do it justice as you had to be there to understand the facilities they had; a professional kitchen, temple, meditation room, chaishop, and of course the Skylab which was a marble dance floor on the top level, with windows on all sides overlooking the outskirts of the city. Sometimes in the morning the sun could shine through the windows into parts of the building and through the deco onto the dance floor! Many parties at the Elf went on for several days, and a lot of new artists got a chance to play and practice their stuff there. The amazing thing was the complete freedom: to dance, hangout in the chaishop, visit a friend’s room or go for a walk. In that way, it was nothing like a club and there was literally no closing time. As long as people were responsible the freedom was there, so it was a great example of what is possible. The scene has missed the freedom of such a venue. The Elf had to close in 2001, and a lot of people had to find new homes and we, as a collective, have had to find other solutions for parties, chill sessions or just a place to be together. Between then and now, there have been various organizations and clubs which have come and gone, like Club Time and The Beetles. Empathy organized many good parties in big venues like the Melkweg; Mutual Hypnosis did some quality parties across the street from the Melkweg; and 9lifes of Hofmann made various parties and events that all kept the ball rolling. Psytrance in Holland Today During the winter all parties must be inside and there are several organizations taking on the challenge. Centipede Productions have been organizing parties with new ideas such as “Prog as a Frog” in the Wilhelmina Pakhuis, which has been totally rebuilt into a nice club. Namaste is still organizing parties with quality line ups and good venues including “The Chaishop” in De Rookerij, as well as bigger psytrance events. *Riches (Aerophobia) and Zirk started the weekly “Aknatronix” which trance pioneer DJ-Zen and Liftshift later became involved in. The Trance Maffia are also organizing many parties recently in Amsterdam, keep your eyes and ears open for them! The Ruigoord village is still hosting events including the yearly Solstice party which has been a great success, especially with the intensely beautiful weather we had last year. Other yearly events are Queen’s day (April 30) a national holiday with many parties and psy-trance is represented by Bom Voyage at the droogbak, as well as an Ozmali event at Frederiksplein; and many other parties throughout the country. EarthDance is synchronized worldwide as well as in Holland. There is also a DJ-café called Tetra in the center of Amsterdam, which is a nice place to hangout for a few drinks and a spliff. Summer is without a doubt the most attractive time to party; whether allowing for outdoor events as well as extended chill sessions in the park or trips to the beach. The scene extends beyond just Amsterdam with organizations in other cities like Cosmic Vibration in Leiden, Lucid Vision in Rotterdam, Psynami in Groningen and Shut up & Dance in Den Haag. There are good artists and dj’s both old & new in Holland, as there is no lack of quality when it comes to the music. Recently some new venues are creating new possibilities. ArcTone has been producing some great ambient sounds, collaborating with other artists and providing shanty tripped-out live sets at various parties and festivals. The Well has also been active in creating and playing quality ambient music at various parties and festivals. Dead Parrot has been producing some interesting tunes. Cytopia.org is based in Amsterdam and myself (Servellen) played my own tunes for the 1st time just last night which was met with smiles and dancing so I hope to be doing this again. The big Dutch success has been *Zen Mechanics with various quality international releases on some big labels like Iboga; most of you have heard of him. On the DJ front, recently Bart (Sonic Dragon NL) has been mixing very well with a great variety of styles between sets making him stand out. Betty (Adjuca) has been a real crowd pleaser with her particular taste in track selection. Ions has come out of the wood work as a new versatile DJ. Marcia has really developed her sound in the last years and Dogo continues to provide solid progressive. Satyr is still active as a quality DJ who is versatile in style and enthusiastic about what he does. Zebra_N has been active organizing conferences for musicians to share techniques and has been on the case with Troy making some new tunes as CCL; Steven HC has opened Ozmali Records; and not to forget our favorite madman La Nebuleuse has released his 2nd album “Serial Killah” on Galactic Federation Media. Respect Big Brother. - Pinned Please Think Before YOU Type! Whether you like it or not, things are getting harder for free party organisers across the EU. Cops and Governments are clamping down, and trying to drive people towards only attending parties which have been licensed or authorised, although it is still the human right of all EU citizens to assemble with their friends and invite them to a private event which does not cause disruption to others. So please be careful what you say here - even if you are excited and eager to let everyone know how good the party will be. If the event has not been licensed then do not say anything in a public forum about its potential location - even if you have been invited in advance and know extra info because your friends in the crew / elves and pixies told you. Just mentioning a region can be enough to give the local council enough time to get extra cops, or legal paperwork required to stop the event. Putting up a partyline on the public internet means that cops can either ring it to find out info, get it shut down as its against your terms of service to use a mobile for "illegal" activity, or perhaps even monitor its usage pattens in order to get intelligence! If you wish parties to continue, please don't make it any harder for party crews.. 1 2 3 4

Most Important Things: Nice People in Safety Top Sounds & Visuals Interesting Venue No Grief Fun The best thing about putting on a free party is that all your friends are there. Word of mouth is usually the best way, and you'll only get friends and friends of friends etc. Advertising in other ways may attract unwanted 'guests'. To help each and every one of your crowd correctly to experience the 'dance energy rush' in an environment of relative comfort and safety here's a few tips: Always check squatted venues at least a day or two before the party for: Safe floors, ceilings walls, broken glass, electricity etc. (we found misguided revellers using a hanging live power outlet as a swing!), running water, flushing toilets and sufficient fire exits. Essential safety kit: At least one C02 (black) fire extinguisher. Trained first-aider with a decent first aid kit. Mobile phone. A 12 volt Halogen floodlight is useful for setting up (you can run it off a car battery). A 240 volt floodlight (or more) in case there are dangerous dark areas. Torches. It's all dull, and some of it's expensive, but there's nothing that kills a party more effectively than someone dying in blood-soaked agony on the dance-floor. If you can't think of any good music to play - let someone else do it. If, after announcing your intention to organise the party in the pub on Tuesday night you aren't bombarded by endless DJ's, all of whom who will guarantee to 'rock it' with their 'fuckin' mental' collection of 'white labels', then, and only then, resort to "Now that's what I call Absolutely the most 'avin it, Hardcore Industrial Ultimate Rave Dance Anthem Classics in the pan-dimensional multiverse before and since the Big-Bang" from K-Tel. Your sound-system should have three important qualities - bass, midrange and treble. Many have only two or even one of these, but all three will seriously enhance your listening pleasure. Alternatively, soak your ears in Ketamine and Special Brew and lie face down in the scoop bin which was all you could afford with your last Housing Benefit cheque and forget about the irrelevant higher frequencies. A good choice of venue will greatly enhance everyone's fun. Beautiful countryside makes a cheap and effective backdrop. A sunrise is infinitely less expensive than a laser and a squillion times brighter. Indoors, everyone will be happier if there's somewhere reasonably comfortable and quieter to sit down. Drugs of all sorts may be available at your party, and will have an affect on the atmosphere. If you're planning to sell alcohol, remember the penalties can be severe and the police may use this to get you if they can't use party related laws. If you're bringing the sound system you'll be the first to be searched for illegal drugs. A good way round the sale of alcohol problem is to buy it in bulk, which everyone can 'chip in' for in advance (e.g. from France) and have a list of people who 'chipped in' ready to show the police if necessary. If you find that there are dealers at your party are selling drugs, no-one will thank you if they get sold horse tranquilliser as ecstasy. Take some ecstasy testing kits if you can, for the safety of those who will take it, but don't carry any illegal drugs with them (obvious really!) Avoiding grief is the biggest challenge faced by anyone putting on a free party in Britain today. No matter how careful the organisers are to be safe and conscientious, some people just can't handle seeing other people having a good time - especially if they're not invited! Outdoor and indoor events face grief from the police (Criminal Justice Act, Public Licensing Laws), angry neighbours, uninvited guests and the weather: The ideal location is one where no-one can see the party or hear the music other than those attending. Sound travels a long way outside, partying in quarries and deep valleys can be very effective at limiting the range of noise disturbance, whereas trees reduce the volume much less. As a rule of thumb, if you can see a building from the soundsystem then they can hear the music. The amount of noise which constitutes a disturbance has frequently been debated. Some moaning ninnies will strain to hear a faintly audible whisper of a kick-drum, with the windows open and consider this an infringement of their rights as a miserable, party-pooping, tory (probably) land-owning killjoy. On the other hand pick your site badly and you could keep hundreds of people awake all night needlessly. The C.J.A. allows the police to insist you leave the site if they think that the party may cause serious distress to local people. Serious distress has not been defined in law and presumably if the police eject a party from a site which would not have caused a problem, they could be taken to court over it, but as yet no-one known to us has had the time or the means to try this. To order you to leave the land, the order has to come from a superintendent or higher ranking officer, although this often comes as a signed standard letter. In one case, the soundsystem refused to leave land when issued with this order in East Sussex and in the morning the police confiscated some of the system. If you successfully argued that no distress was or could be caused by the party you might get compensation for the loss of the rig and get it back, but this argument has never been tested in law (to our knowledge). Under the C.J.A., a confiscated soundsystem can be destroyed if the owners are convicted, and the maximum sentence for organising a 'rave' includes five years in prison. These laws apply whether or not you have permission from the landowner of the party site, although the police are less likely to prevent parties on land with permission. Outdoor events are not subject to the same licensing laws as indoor ones, although a marquee might be construed as 'indoors' for such purposes. Wherever you party, cleaning up afterwards is essential. Why should we fuck up the countryside for a party —after all industry and roads do it much more effectively. Cleaning up keeps on the good side of locals and helps perpetuate the outdoor free partyvibe - man! Partying indoors throws up a whole new legal minefield. Theoretically any gathering in a building with music and dancing to which the public have access is subject to an entertainment licence under the neatly titled Local Government Act (1982) Miscellaneous Provisions. Prosecution under this act is at the discretion of the Local Authority (usually) and in most cases this is too expensive and time consuming for them to undertake. However if pushed this will happen and it's very hard to fight. The only defence is to show that all reasonable precautions were taken to ensure that no uninvited guests had access to the building. In the eyes of the average magistrate, this means having 6 or more bruisers in bomber jackets with headset walkie-talkies strutting around as though they just stepped off the set of Bladerunner. Taking money on the door also implies a licence is required. To the best of our knowledge, no case of this kind which has gone to court has ever been won by the defendant. The maximum penalty is £20,000 and/or six months, although a fine of a few hundred is more usual. Once again ownership of the building makes things easier although this law still applies. If you can prove that all the people at the party were invited—you do not have to have a licence. The other angles the police may use to try and stop the event are breaking and entering and abstraction(?!). If you're cracking a squat for a party do it at least one or two nights before the event, so if you get caught you're only looking for somewhere to live and not standing with a jemmy in one hand and a record box in the other. A discrete window can be left open for access on the night of the event. Most buildings are accessible without causing damage, if you break a lock or something getting in, this is enough to get you nicked for criminal damage - so replace it. Locks don't cost much and might be useful on the night. Once you're in get the tools (jemmy, bolt-croppers, screwdrivers etc.) off the premises immediately. Abstraction is stealing electricity. Check the state of the power before the night of the party. If there is power in the building go to your local electricity board shop and pay for some (£2O will do) in advance. They will normally accept the advance payment, and rarely inform anyone. If the police suggest that you're stealing the lecky, you can produce a receipt! If possible have a generator on hand as a back-up. Often, the key to success seems to be not to give the police a reason to stop the event. A long-term empty industrial building, a few streets away from any residential areas can be partied all night without any authorities being aware. If you are careful about not inflicting too much damage, clean up afterwards and put your own locks on you might be able to party it again in a month. However, too many parties in the same building brings other problems and soon the crowd will expand to include small time local mafia and other thugs who have their own unpleasant profit motives for attending. A good phone network of friends and moving the venue each time will keep numbers manageable and idiots away. In general when dealing with the police, environmental health and any other officials or general busybodies and members of the public, remain calm and courteous at all times. This is a disarming tactic which will render even the most puffing, ruddy faced retired ex-colonel's barking complaint ineffective. Listen to what the police say, reason intelligently and don't believe a word of it without consideration. They will lie to you, steal your generator from behind your back and to hell with the law if it serves their purpose. If you think your event might result in a prosecution — take measures to protect yourselves against potentially biased court proceedings. Take photographs of all the safety precautions you have undertaken, and have a reasonable number of visible stewards. Don't take money on the door, clean up afterwards and take photographs of the site afterwards. If possible have a camcorder available to record the event particularly interactions with the police. Lastly a few (highly sarcastic) DO's and DON'Ts: Partygoers: DO hassle stressed people with head-torches and screwdrivers when the music's mysteriously stopped saying "Oi mate, can I borrow your miners helmet to skin up with?" DO poke bits of metal into unknown boxes on the wall with coloured lights, saying "Beam me up Scotty". DO gather round the police when they arrive, waving empty bottles and shouting "Remember the Beanfield, bastard pig wanker?" DON'T help clear anything up at the end, but instead lie around in a pool of piss and dog turd informing the organisers that they're slaves to the system. DO arrive at a pitch-black Welsh hillside in November with only a small nightie, high-heels and two pills (previously ingested if possible). DO believe the police when they tell you the party's cancelled (as they never lie), and on no account bother to try to find a different way onto the site, returning 40 miles to your flat to watch telly. DO park across the access road to the party so that ambulances can't get in. Organisers: DO give out printed flyers saying "Illegal Rave" in large letters a week in advance to give the police ample time to plan their operation. DON'T pick outdoor sites with ample parking as muddy dodgems in the morning is a top laugh and modern ambulances have wings. DON'T bother with a tarpaulin to cover the rig as it never rains in Britain. DO put generators inside buildings as Carbon Monoxide heightens the effects of ecstasy DON'T bother bringing any water to the party. - Pinned UK : W : Rave Manifesto… oi oi gang! been busy for a while so not posted for a while! hope all is well ! weve been to a few parties recently were the space that has been used has been trashed, no litter has been picked up, idiots talking to the police etc now to try an educate people we have devolped a "rave manifesto" its a working document that we are circulating throught partyland, (its perminantly on our website) hopefully promoting a responsible attitude! were asking promoters and rigs to get on board the link.... and i was wondering if you guys would make it a sticky? were no angels but we are responsible! ive been partying for 14 years ( god i feel old!) but i think if 1 person reads it and takes it on board then all the better! will understand if your not up for it, we thought you guys would be the type to get on board with us! big love!

A rave party, more often called a rave and sometimes called a free party, is typically an all-night dance event where DJs and other performers play electronic dance music and rave music. The slang expression rave was originally used by people of Caribbean descent in London during the 1960s to describe a party. In the late 1980s, the term began to be used to describe the subculture that grew out of the acid house movement that began in Chicago and flourished in the United Kingdom club scene. The availability of drugs —particularly ecstasy — and/or alcoholic beverages have caused them to be targeted and criticized by law enforcement officials and parents' groups. Mainstream raves began in the late 1980s as a product of, reaction to, and rebellion against, trends in popular music, nightclub culture, and commercial radio. In an effort to maintain distance and secrecy from the mainstream club scene (or perhaps for lack of affordable, receptive venues), warehouses, rental halls, and outside locations most often served as raves' venues. In an effort to control and curtail rave parties, some police and governmental bodies effectively outlawed raves in some areas. Such laws consequently forced regional electronic dance music events to move to formal venues, such as nightclubs and amphitheatres. Some venues and jurisdictions additionally prohibited certain types of rave fashion and paraphernalia. Early raves were completely do it yourself; only a small number of people contributed to event production and promotion. Self-styled production and promotion companies have increasingly organized raves; the "companies" were usually unofficial or loosely defined. Some of the more well-known rave promotion companies have included Brotherhood of Boom, Mushgroove, Freebass Society, and Pure. The companies promote their events by creating and distributing fliers and online bulletins. As law enforcement agencies increasingly began paying attention to raves, concealing a party's location became important to an event's success. To that end, event organizers sometimes either promoted events solely by word-of-mouth, or would only reveal the date and location of the event to subscribers of an electronic mailing list or via voicemail. Some even went so far as to provide a series of clues or map checkpoints that ultimately led to the location of the rave. What could arguably be called raves existed in the early 1980s in the Ecstasy-fueled club scene in clubs like NRG, and in the drug-free, all-ages scene in Detroit at venues like The Music Institute. However, it was not until the mid to late 1980s that a wave of psychedelic and other electronic dance music, most notably acid house and techno, emerged and caught on in the clubs, warehouses and free-parties of London and Manchester. These early raves were called the Acid House Summers. They were mainstream events that attracted thousands of people (up to 25,000) to come, dance and take LSD. The noise and disturbance of thousands of people appearing at rural locations caused outrage in the national media. The government branded them Public Enemy number 1 and made the fine for holding an illegal party £20,000 and six months in prison. This, along with ecstasy becoming scarce, ended the early raves. Police crackdowns on these often-illegal parties drove the scene into the countryside. The word "rave" somehow caught on to describe these semi-spontaneous weekend parties occurring at various locations outside the M25 Orbital motorway. (It was this that gave Orbital their name.) The early rave scene also flourished underground in some U.S. cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles and as word of the budding scene spread, raves quickly caught on in other cities such as San Diego and New York City and in major urban centers across the European continent. Raves began to expand into a global phenomenon around 1989-1992, mostly on a grassroots basis: people who had traveled to attend the first raves in each region began setting up promotion companies, often informally, to organize their own parties. By the mid-1990s, major corporations were sponsoring events and adopting the scene's music and fashion for their "edgier" advertising, making the scene become more commercialized. In 1994, the United Kingdom's Criminal Justice Bill passed as the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act which contained several sections designed to suppress the growing free-party and anti-road protest movements (sometimes embodied by ravers and travellers). Sections 63, 64 & 65 of the Act targeted electronic dance music, defining it as "wholly or predominantly characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats". The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act empowered police to arrest citizens who appeared to be: preparing to hold a rave (2 or more people), waiting for a rave to start (10+), or attending a rave (100+). Section 65 allows any uniformed constable who believes a person is on their way to a rave within a five-mile radius to stop them and direct them away from the area; noncompliant citizens may be subject to a maximum fine of £1,000. In Central Europe and other parts of the world, rave culture was becoming part of a new youth movement. DJs and electronic music producers such as Westbam proclaimed the existence of a "raving society" and promoted electronic music as legitimate competition for rock and roll. Indeed, electronic dance music and rave subculture became mass movements. Raves had tens of thousands of attendants, youth magazines featured styling tips and television networks launched music magazines on house and techno music. The annual Love Parade festivals in Berlin attracted more than one million partygoers between 1997 and 2000. In the early 2000s, the apparent number of illegal parties began to decline, and the number of sanctioned events seemed to be on the rise. The few constants in the scene include amplified electronic dance music, a vibrant social network built on the ethos of PLUR, percussive music and freeform dancing as a basis for drug use, and an ambivalent attitude toward "club drugs" such as ecstasy, methamphetamine, speed and Ketamine. However, increased cocaine usage, preponderance of adulterated ecstasy tablets and organized criminal activity has been detrimental to UK-based rave culture, although free parties are now on the rise again. According to some long-time observers, rave music and its subculture began to stagnate by the end of the 1990s. The period of grassroots innovation and explosive growth and evolution was over; the flurry of passionate activity and the sense of international community were fading. By the early 2000s, the terms "rave" and "raver" had fallen out of favor among many people in the electronic dance music community, particularly in Europe. Many Europeans returned to identifying themselves as "clubbers" rather than ravers. It became unfashionable among many electronic dance music aficionados to describe a party as a "rave", perhaps because the term had become bastardized. Some communities preferred the term "festival", while others simply referred to "parties". True raves, such as "Mayday", continued to occur for a time in Central Europe, with less constrictive laws allowing raves to continue in some countries long after the death of rave in the United Kingdom. Moreover, traditional rave paraphernalia, such as facemasks and pacifiers, ceased to be popular. Raves and ravers continued to be villified by government authorities. For example, following a July 2005 violent raid by police on CzechTek, an annual techno music festival, the Czech Republic's Prime Minister said the festival's attendees were "no dancing children but dangerous people" and that many were "obsessed people with anarchist proclivities and international links," who "provoke massive violent demonstrations, fuelled by alcohol and drugs, against the peaceful society". As with any trend that runs on for more than a decade, the Rave scene has recently been harking back to the old days of warehouse parties, with a surge in "old school" club nights, particularly in the Jungle scene, with DJs and producers who had dropped out of the business playing sets of music from the founding days of their genre, and producing new records in that style. Clubs are increasingly going back to the grimy days of warehouses in terms of styling, rather than the interior designed venues of the late 90s. But more importantly, the rave scene has become its own culture rather than just a "party" term. Vibrant groups of like-minded individuals have united in the "undergound" dance scene to form raver communities that share the same ideas that the raver community was built upon in the 1990's: Openness, Acceptance, and Positivism. A prime example of this culture would be the tight-knit community based out of New York City built around the Raveclick.Com website. Founded by Despina Simegiatos, the web site was created as a way to educate and keep people informed about the underground rave culture and scene bubbling beneath the Five Burroughs. Comprised of dancers, DJ's, producers, promoters, and fans of electronic dance music, the site has attracted over 1,400 members to its message board and has become a central hub of the New York rave scene while still retaining a core of friends who share the same ideals and desire. These communities will strive to keep the rave scene and it's culture alive and well in big cities across the United States. The upsurge in popularity of rave culture in the United States at a certain period in time often lends it characteristics common to a 'movement' or Subculture. Although raves have existed in the United States as long as in any other country, the sudden explosion of mainstream popularity in the late nineties has lead to more common approaches to defining rave culture as a youth movement, in way which would not be possible in the UK or Europe due to a greater diversity amongst participants, countries and musical styles. Accordingly, many of the descriptions listed below are only appropriate to groups within the USA, and may even constitute generalisations within the US itself. Although not universally agreed upon by those in the rave movement, some of the central tenets of the culture are said to be: Openness: to not judge, condemn, or label other people's style of clothes, hair, makeup, costume, sexual orientation, musical preference, race, age, gender, class or income. Acceptance: to not try to convince anyone of the rightness or wrongness associated with most human activities. Positivism: to subscribe to the notion that if something makes someone happy without hurting someone else, then that something is okay. As such, fights or scuffles at a rave are rare. Although not a constant among all ravers, one philosophy of rave culture is expressed through the acronym "PLUR", for Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. The concept itself is found particularly irritating by a large number of clubgoers, many of whom have been hoping the concept will fade into antiquity, to be replaced by better marketing terminology for positivist thinking, at some later date. As of yet the new terminology is still unknown. Ravers have been compared to both the hippies of the 1960s and new wavers of the 1980s due to their interest in non-violence and music. Technology is, by definition, central to electronic music, and technological innovation has influenced rave subculture in many ways. For example, since loud music made it difficult to converse at raves, virtual communities were extremely important in rave subculture. Also, access to various affordable computer technologies empowered amateurs to compose or manipulate electronic music. On rave parties doing dance tricks of all kinds is very popular. However these tricks are not always non-dangerous and can sometimes lead to damages, so they are not always tolerated by the organizers of the rave. What kind of tricks are allowed and what not differs from party to party. In contrast to many other 'Youth Cultures', older people are often active members of the scene and are well represented at events. Loosely defined terms generated by the rave community. They are generalized and not conclusive, complete, nor necessarily current. Old school raver - refers to someone who has been a raver for some time, whereas a baby raver or a newbie refers to someone who is new to raving or at their first rave. Hardcore ravers are sometimes called pure ravers or true ravers or partykids. Something can be rave or have raveness. Jaded raver - one who has been in the rave scene for a long time or someone who is growing tired of 'the scene' and raving. The newness of the experience has long ago worn off and they have noticed the seamier side. They may be annoyed at what the raving experience has become or they may be lackadaisical to certain aspects of raving that they once held a fondness for. Quite often a jaded raver will not appreciate the influx of new ravers into the scene because the new ravers are viewed as contributing to the scene's decay. Club kid - tends to dress in bright colors and flashy, sometimes gaudy clothes, including leather and fur. They might also favor fluorescent plastic bead necklaces and candy bracelets. Many club kids also wear children's' backpacks. Male club kids tend to dress in a more feminine manner. In some localities, a club kid is viewed as an outsider. Candy raver / candykid / bunny - often wears brightly colored and child-like fashions such as day-glo wide leg pants, black light reactive or glow-in-the-dark bracelets/necklaces and t-shirts featuring cartoon characters. They wear homemade bracelets and necklaces made of plastic, glass, or felt beads or candy. Candy ravers or candykids are often found exchanging or giving out small gifts. These small gifts will usually be hugs, toys, glowsticks, drugs, CDs, necklaces, bracelets, and/or candy. Liquid dancer - a person who performs liquid dancing (a fluid gesticulation of the arms and body) Junglist refers to an urban-based sub-culture of the rave scene defined by Drum and Bass (DnB) / Jungle music. Junglists often detest mainstream rave music and prefer darker and deeper vibes. Hostility between ravers and junglists has lead to a disconnect between the two groups. Many junglists refuse to refer to themselves as 'ravers' because of the drug connotations and the rave style of dress and attitude. Many junglists were once doe-eyed ravers or even candy kids who, after becoming jaded, left that part of the scene. Some ravers participate in a light-oriented dance called glowsticking, and a similar dance called glowstringing, or poi. These dances, however, are independent of the raving community, and often the stereotyped association may be resented. Glow sticks in the dark stimulate the pupils, and it is claimed that they relieve the effects of Ecstasy. Therefore at some rave places they are presented as "safety materials." In some cases the sale of glow sticks during rave parties was presented as a proof of illegal drug use. Glow sticks have been considered drug paraphernalia because they are used in "blowing (someone) up," or giving someone on Ecstasy a "light show." The recipient of the light show sits or stands facing the show giver who moves the glow sticks away and towards the face of the recipient in various stylized movements. This lightshow is sometimes accompanied by a facial massage and/or by blowing mentholated vapors into the nose, mouth, and eyes of the recipient. This is intended to increase the effects of Ecstasy. Regardless, glowsticks can be used at raves for interesting dance effects, because most raves, except some open air raves e.g., technoparades are held in dark or nearly dark rooms. Because rave parties are popular with people who wish to show off their dancing, glowsticks can be an ancillary material for creative freestyle dance. In the U.S. the subculture has been branded by the mainstream media and law enforcement agencies as a purely drug-centric culture similar to the hippies of the 1960s. As a result, ravers have been effectively run out of business in many areas (Media Awareness Project). Although they continue in major coastal cities like New York and LA, and notably the Winter Music Conference in Florida, most other areas have been relegated to word-of-mouth-only underground parties and nightclub events. In some parts of Europe, raves are common and mainstream, although they are now more often known as "festivals," highlighting multiple acts over a whole day period, and often including non-dance music acts. Groups that have addressed drug use at raves include the Electronic Music Defence and Education Fund (EMDEF) and DanceSafe, which advocate harm reduction approaches. Paradoxically, drug safety literature (such as those distributed by DanceSafe) are used as evidence of condoned drug use (EMDEF press release). Other groups, such as Drug Free America Foundation, Inc., characterize raves as being rife with gang activity, rape, robbery, and drug-related deaths. [2] In 2005, Antonio Maria Costa, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, advocated drug testing on highways as a countermeasure against drug use at raves. 1 2

- Will there be Techno events in Summer 2022? I am waiting bravely since 2019 that the Progressive Trance Event "Burning Mountain" in Switzerland, Zernez (GR) is again allowed, but nothing guarantees it will take place !!! What about other countries, will there be some events again organized ??? Because they have sold in many places tickets the two last years without being sure it would happen, which was exactly what happened. NO EVENT TOOK PLACE

"The police give the impression they're more concerned with beleaguered citizens "taking the law into their own hands" than actually doing anything about criminals breaking the law in the first place. Take this grotesque example from Dorking in Surrey. For the past seven years people living near Netley Heath, a local beauty spot, have been plagued by illegal all-night raves fuelled by drink and drugs. Up to 600 revellers descend on the area at weekends, disturbing the peace for seven miles around. They leave behind them broken bottles, used condoms and other assorted debris. Dogs have had their paws lacerated and pheasant pens have been vandalised. For seven years -yes, SEVEN YEARS -gamekeeper Jessica Allinson has been pleading with the police to put a stop to the raves. "It was always the same excuse, 'We don't have the manpower to deal with it' was all we heard. No one involved with the raves has ever been charged," said Jessica. Finally, she cracked. Jessica, a 47-year-old mother-of-four, and her 28-year old assistant, Alex Szyndel, confronted the illegal ravers and unloaded their shotguns into the loudspeakers blasting deafening music across the countryside. As they retreated to their Land Rover, they found themselves up against a snarling mob of 100 partygoers, many of them out of their heads on drugs. Jessica was punched and kicked. One man threatened to kill her. Terrified, they fired into the air and shot out the tyres of cars to stop the mob giving chase. Shortly afterwards the police arrived in force at Mrs Allinson's house. "There was a police helicopter hovering overhead, four patrol cars on the drive and two motorcycles. There were 15 officers around my house, yet we could never raise a single one to turn out when we complained about the illegal raves in the past," she said. Jessica and Alex were arrested, stripped of their clothes and kept in the cells at Guildford nick from 8am to early evening before being bailed. It was seven months before they were told they were being charged with possessing firearms with intent to cause fear of violence and criminal damage. To cut a long story short, on Friday Jessica and Alex were sentenced to three months in prison. The judge, John Bull QC, admitted they had suffered extreme provocation and highlighted the lack of police response. But that didn't stop him jailing them. This is what he could have done. He could have refused to send them to prison. He could have given them a conditional discharge or a suspended sentence. He could have ordered the Chief Constable of Surrey to appear before the court and explain why his force had refused to deal with a drunken, drug-fuelled mob breaking the law for SEVEN YEARS. He could have asked the Chief Constable also to explain why, when he had "no resources" to deal with illegal raves, he had no difficulty summoning up 15 officers, four patrol cars and a helicopter to arrest a mother-of-four in her own home. He might have asked the Chief Constable and every other copper involved in this wicked persecution of two decent people how they manage to sleep at night. Have they no shame? But he wouldn't. He might be John Bull by name but John Bull by nature, he ain't. If Judge Bull ever wants to find himself sitting at the Bailey, then he'll have to kow-tow to the Wicked Witch, Cheerful Charlie Falconer and the rest of the Left-wing establishment in the Home Office and the Lord Chancellor's department. And that means going soft on criminals while being tough on the victims of crime. Same goes for the Chief Constable of Surrey and any of his officers with one eye on promotion. There's nothing our rulers enjoy more than banging up a decent, hard-working taxpayer, especially if they're suspected of voting Tory. What kind of country is it in which 600 drug-crazed ravers can break the law, cause criminal damage, trespass, make people's lives a misery for seven years without attracting the attention of the police -yet a distressed 47-year-old mother-of-four is sent down for three months for having the audacity to fight back? If the Chief Constable had a shred of decency, he would resign over his disgraceful dereliction of duty. Does the judge really think justice has been served in this case? I'd rather sell the Big Issue in The Strand than send Jessica Allinson to jail. It has become fashionable to say the police and the courts are no longer on our side, that at best they are neutral between criminals and victims. I've said it myself, time and again. But that's not true any longer. They are not neutral -they are on the side of the criminal against the victim. Only yesterday we read of a magistrate who has been forced to resign because she dared to express the opinion that burglars should face an automatic jail sentence. This comes just days after the Home Secretary refused to change the law to allow us properly to defend ourselves against burglars without fear of prosecution. Meanwhile, a terrified mother-of-four rots in jail while criminals laugh in our faces and the police pat themselves on the backs over a job well done. "
